The recent release of Prince Harry's memoir, Spare, has made huge waves around the world.
I have no intention of gossiping about the British royal family, but I am interested in the writer behind the prince. The BBC revealed that Harry paid $1 million for the ghostwriter.
J.R. Moehringer is the man behind other best-selling memoirs like "Open" by Andre Agassi and "Shoe Dog" by Phil Knight.
What exactly is ghostwriting and how can it help your personal brand?
I had the pleasure of speaking with Scott MacMillan, Author and President of Grammar Factory Publishing. He breaks down the difference between an "author" and a "writer" (spoiler alert: they're not the same thing), talks about the pros and cons of hiring a ghostwriter, and shares some tips on what to look for when hunting for the perfect ghostwriting partner.
Scott also brings up some alternatives to ghostwriting, like hiring a book coach or finding a collaborator. But let's be real, sometimes you just need someone to do the heavy lifting for you. And that's where ghostwriters come in. They bring a fresh perspective, a new voice and can take your project to the next level. Just make sure to give credit where credit is due.
